Life Enrichment of Houston (LEOH)

The spring session of LEOH is about to start here at Bethany. For almost 30 years, LEOH has been providing educational and fun opportunities for senior citizens in our area. Informational brochures are in the mail and on-line at http://bethanyumc.org/senioradultactivities. Brochures are also available in the Narthex and Church office.

Registration is THIS THURSDAY, March 11th in the Fellowship Hall from 10 am until noon and the first session is on March 18th.

This Sunday is Scouting Sunday At Bethany!

If you are involved with the Scouting program as a youth or as an adult, we invite you to the 10:50 am Worship Service this Sunday, March 14th as we honor our Scouts. Be sure to wear your uniform!

MISSION NEWS

An informational luncheon about the upcoming mission trip to Kenya will be at First Methodist - Westchase on Sunday, March 14th at 12:30 pm. The trip is Sept. 20-Oct. 1 and the cost is $2900.

Haiti Update: We collected over 300 health kits and they have been sent to the Grace Hospital in Port-au-Prince. In addition, thanks to YOU, Bethany sent $670 to Haiti through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Thanks to everyone!

We will be partnering with First Assembly of God in Humble to go to Haiti in mid May or early June to add on to an orphanage. People with construction experience are needed, as well those who want to do medical work or volunteer in the school or feeding program. We will be working with Mission of Hope, Haiti. If you are able to go, please contact Kristen.

Be sure to pick up a brochure listing all of the many mission experiences that you can be a part of this year. The time is NOW to make reservations. Brochures are available in the Narthex and in the Church office.

On Easter Sunday, Bethany's altar will be adorned with Easter lilies. If you would like to purchase a lily in memory or in honor of a loved one or friend, please complete the Easter Lily envelope available in the pews and in the Narthex or simply contact the Church office. Cost is $10 each.

On Easter Sunday, April 4, neighborhood children will enjoy a SCRAMBLED EGG HUNT here at Bethany. A SCRAMBLED EGG HUNT is an Easter Egg Hunt with a twist: the whole family is invited to participate in a walk-through journey of the Easter story and hunt for Easter eggs hidden along the way.

We need donations of bags of unopened, wrapped Easter candy for the event. Please drop them by the Church office or bring them to the Narthex on Sunday. We need the candy by Sunday, March 21st.

Census Bureau Opens Jobs Line for the 2010 Census

The Census Bureau has launched a critical national effort for every person in our nation to "Be Counted" in the 2010 Census that will affect the apportionment of congressional seats, and how the federal government annually allocates $400 billion in federal assistance to communities. Operations have already begun and the Census Bureau needs to recruit hundreds of workers in the area to ensure a complete and accurate count in 2010. These temporary, part-time jobs offer good pay, flexible hours up to 40 hours a week, weekly paychecks, and a chance to work near home. Workers are needed in every community. Call the 2010 Census job line 866-861-2010 to schedule a basic employment test or visit www.2010censusjobs.gov.
