You're invited to join us in a 40-day program of listening to the entire New Testament in just 28 minutes a day.  We'll begin on Ash Wednesday, February 25 (or you can start whenever you'd like).
  • Pick up your free audio CD in the Narthex before or after worship, or in the church office.
  • You can also select different versions of the text and download them for use on your computer, iPod or other mp3 player.  Click here to download.
  • Or contact the church office to purchase a $20 BibleStick that already has the audio loaded...you can just listen and go.

Thursday, March 5

Luke 1-4:  The Gospel of Luke is the most complete account of the Jesus' life.  If Mark is the newspaper account and Matthew is the primer for a first century confirmation class, then Luke is the encyclopedia account complete with a sequel in the book of Acts.  Luke is thought by scholars to be a Gentile physician who traveled with Paul.  In the first four chapters that you listened to today, we find the birth narrative that is so familiar at Christmas time, as well as the account of Jesus' childhood with the story of his getting left behind for a day in the temple.  It is an odd placement of Jesus' genealogy after his baptism and right before the temptation.  I guess it emphasizes his identity (a function of baptism) but the genealogy runs through Joseph.  Respond with your thoughts, insight, and questions.  This will also help us form the discussion for Wednesday nights.  Have a Great Day!!

Well, we won't mention how long it took me to figure out how to post this comment, because if we did, we would just think I am completely clueless.

I did want to say that I'm enjoying the Faith Comes by Hearing method of listening to the New Testement. Listening is definitely a different experience than reading. I find that I notice the themes more, and you get a better overall sense of each book. And there are chapters that I found surprising, that I would like to go back to and look at more in depth.
